Love, rejoice and reunion
Cupid & Psyche and Red Crowned Cranes
Japanese Red-Crowned Cranes, known as Tanchos, are among the few devoted species that mate for life.
Their bond is reaffirmed and strengthened through an instinctively ancient and ritualistic dance performed in unison. The traditional sequence begins with a deep, reverent bow, followed by an upright stretch toward the sky as they rejoice in harmony. The fluting pair then leap and dance together.
Framed within the echoed arcs of the Tancho’s is the classical sculpture of Cupid and Psyche, telling a parallel story of reunion. Tested by the disapproving gods who sought to keep them apart, the lovers prevailed against the odds, emerging as the eternal image of true love’s triumph.
The sculpture captures a moment of tenderness, a caress and embrace suspended before the sweetness of the two lovers’ kiss.
From nature to mythology, the artwork uncovers a shared and impassioned moment of rejoicing and reunion.
